1. The idea

Wasel is built to help people stay connected, especially where the internet is weak or expensive. For that to work, it has to be a place people can trust. This policy is the short list of things you must not do on Wasel. It applies to everyone, everywhere, and it works alongside our Terms of Service.

We want to be honest about something up front. Your private chats are end-to-end encrypted, so we cannot read them. That is by design, and it is good for your privacy. It also means we cannot police private messages by reading them. Instead, we act on user reports, account-level signals, and lawful requests. Section 11 explains how.

2. No illegal use

Do not use Wasel for anything that is illegal where you are, or that helps someone else break the law. This includes using Wasel to plan, carry out, or promote criminal activity. If it is against the law offline, it is against this policy on Wasel.

3. Zero tolerance for child sexual abuse

We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and for any sexual exploitation of children. This content is never allowed on Wasel, in any form, for any reason.

When such content is reported to us, or otherwise comes to our attention through the signals available to us, we act on it. That can include closing accounts and reporting to the proper authorities as the law requires.

4. No harassment, threats, or violence

Do not use Wasel to harass, bully, threaten, or stalk anyone. Do not use it to organise, promote, or carry out violence, or to threaten harm to people. Everyone deserves to feel safe.

5. No spam, scams, phishing, or fraud

Do not send bulk or unwanted messages (spam). Do not run scams, phishing schemes, or any kind of fraud. Do not trick people into giving you money, passwords, codes, or personal information. This includes mass automated messaging and fake offers.

6. No impersonation

Do not pretend to be someone you are not in a way that is meant to deceive, whether that is another person, a business, an official body, or Wasel itself. Do not set up an account to mislead others about who is really behind it.

7. No malware or attacks on the service

Do not use Wasel to share viruses, malware, or harmful code. Do not try to break, overload, or get around the security of Wasel or anyone else's systems, and do not interfere with how the service works for other people.

8. No misuse of tokens

Tokens in Wasel are prepaid credit for in-app features. They are not money.

Tokens are not money. You must not use tokens, top-ups, or any Wasel feature to launder money, to disguise the source of funds, or to try to move or transfer value to another person. Wasel is not a bank, a wallet, a remittance service, or a money-transfer service, and it must not be used as one.

9. Sanctions and export law

You must follow applicable sanctions and export-control laws when you use Wasel. Do not use Wasel in a way that breaks these laws, and do not use it to help others do so.

10. Respect other people's privacy

Do not post or share other people's private information without their permission (this is sometimes called "doxxing"). What people share with you in confidence should stay in confidence.

11. How we enforce this honestly

We will be straight with you about what we can and cannot do.

Because person-to-person chats are end-to-end encrypted, we cannot proactively read your private messages, and we do not. We do not scan the content of private chats looking for violations. So our enforcement is based on:

  • User reports. When someone reports content or an account to us.
  • Account-level signals. Patterns we can see without reading message content, for example signs of spam or large-scale automated abuse.
  • Lawful requests from authorities, which we review carefully and answer only as the law requires.

If we find that an account breaks this policy, we may take action that fits the situation. That can range from a warning to suspending or permanently closing the account, and in serious cases, reporting to the authorities. Where it is safe and lawful, we will try to explain why we took action.

12. Reporting and contact

If you see something on Wasel that breaks this policy, please report it. You can report content and accounts inside the app, and you can reach support through the in-app Nora assistant. For serious matters, email us at legal@joinwasel.com.

This policy works together with our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Our websites are joinwasel.com and wasel.global.
